Serdang, 5 September - The song 'Kita Bangsa Merdeka' created and composed by Dato' Mokhzani Ismail as well as lyrics by the late Ghazali Shaaib brought good luck to the GEMERSIK Choir Group, which emerged JUARA Choir Competition in conjunction with the Semarak Merdeka UPM 2022 Programme held on 5 & 6 September 2022 at the Trial Theatre, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).

In the competition, the GEMERSIK Group which consists of a combination of 4 UPM Responsibility Centres, namely the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FPSK), centre for Entrepreneurship Development and Graduate Employability (CEM), UPM Teaching Hospital (HPUPM) and Kolej Pendeta Za'aba (KPZ) has disrupted the competition by beating 10 other teams.

The squad has taken home a championship trophy and a cash prize worth RM500.00.

"We have received intensive guidance and training from the Vocal Teacher, Cikgu Nurul Fazlina Ariff Abdullah and Cikgu Shazwan R. Arzami who is a member of the National Choir.

"The rehearsal has detailed 4 types of choirs to be presented when performing songs that are 2 minutes 23 minutes at the time.", said Nooridah Mohd Top, who is the Chairman of the Gemersik Group.

Meanwhile, Dato' Mokhzani Ismail, who was contacted, said he thanked the Gemersik team for singing the song which was created in 2015. The song is rarely sung by the choir team due to the difficulty of welcoming it with intonation, 'pitching', harmony and steady voice dynamics.

"I believe that all the members of the squad have combined their voices and energy with high confidence to sing the song quietly by knowing each other's role to produce one of the best offerings," he said again.

The Semarak Merdeka UPM 2022 programme was held to foster, nurture and enhance the patriotic spirit among the upm campus community and the community around UPM.

The closing ceremony of the programme was officiated by Encik Muhazam Mansor, Registrar of UPM.
