NUR AINA AMIRAH, FIRST GRADUATE TO WIN THE NEW SHELL MYDINAR AWARD AT UPM'S 47TH CONVOCATION

SERDANG, November 24, 2023 – UPM introduced a new award at its 47th Convocation in 2023, namely the Shell MyDinar Award sponsored by MyDinar Kiosk, a business selling Shell fuel in Subang Jaya, Selangor.

Speaking to reporters after the inaugural award ceremony at the 47th UPM Convocation at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Cultural and Arts Center, Rohani Abdul Jamil, the business owner, expressed pride in contributing the award for five years, recognizing the role of UPM students who engage in both learning and business.

"I am intrigued by the idea of students interested in establishing small-scale startups at university. From these small businesses, growth occurs, and eventually, they can employ others using the 'dropship' method in their businesses. The entrepreneurial efforts made by UPM's Centre for Entrepreneurial Development and Graduate Marketability (CEM) have motivated me to support UPM student entrepreneurs," she explained.

She agreed to contribute a cash prize of RM5,000.00, a real dinar gold medal (coin), and an achievement certificate for five years, starting from 2023 to 2027.

Meanwhile, Nur Aina Amirah Azmi, a graduate in Bachelor of Agriculture (Animal Science), Faculty of Agriculture, was honored as the first recipient of the Shell MyDinar Award this year. She received the award from the Chancellor of UPM, Duli Yang Maha Mulia Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj.

"Alhamdulillah, I feel very grateful for this award. I am delighted that all my hard work in studying while running this business has paid off," she said after the second session of the first Convocation here today.

She runs a business providing polaroid picture printing services and surprise gift delivery services for various celebrations such as birthdays, starting in her first year of studies by registering the business with the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) in 2019.

Expanding on her thoughts, she said that having a genuine interest in running a business while studying should be taken seriously. If not started, it will remain just an empty dream.

She also participated in various entrepreneurship programs conducted by CEM. Each program attended had a significant impact on herself and her business. Despite being busy managing her business, she emphasized not to forget the genuine duties as a student.

On the other hand, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mass Hareeza Ali, Director of CEM, stated that the involvement of the industry in university entrepreneurship activities is highly welcomed. The benefits of this University-Industry relationship will elevate the expertise, perspectives, and experiences available to both parties

"The sponsorship contribution by MyDinar Kiosk can recognize graduate entrepreneurs striving to create jobs not only for themselves but also for others," he further explained.
