Serdang, 5 June 2024 - Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) held the UPM Career and Entrepreneurship Carnival 2024 at the Sultan Abdul Samad Library. The carnival was officiated by YBhg. Dato’ Prof. Dr. Ahmad Farhan Bin Mohd Sadullah, Vice-Chancellor of UPM, and attended by various dignitaries, industry representatives, and university members.

The event featured participation from 26 employers offering 1,269 job vacancies and 536 Industrial Training placements, providing students and graduates with opportunities to effectively plan their career paths.

In his opening speech, Dato’ Prof. Dr. Ahmad Farhan announced that UPM achieved a graduate employability rate of 99.4% in 2023, matching the record set in 2022.

“This success is a testament to UPM’s commitment to ensuring that our graduates not only possess strong academic knowledge but also the essential soft skills required by the industry,” he said.

He also announced the recipients of the Best Faculty Graduate Employability Award 2023, which included the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, the Faculty of Design and Architecture, and UPM Bintulu Campus, each achieving a graduate employability rate of 100%.

Additionally, UPM presented the Best Graduate Employability Award (In Field of Study) 2023 to the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, which secured first place with 91.1% of graduates employed in their field of study. The second and third places were awarded to the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences with 85.6%, and the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology with 80.5%, respectively.

The Overall Best Graduate Employability Award 2023 was given to the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, demonstrating outstanding performance with a 100% graduate employability rate and a high percentage of graduates working in their field of study at 91.1%.

Dato’ Prof. Dr. Ahmad Farhan emphasized that the graduate employability rate is an important mechanism for tracking the employability status of graduates within six months of completing their studies.

“With this achievement, UPM proves its capability in producing graduates who meet industry demands.

“It reflects UPM’s continuous efforts in strengthening collaboration with industries to ensure that graduates have relevant skills and are ready to enter a competitive job market,” he added.

The two-day carnival was jointly organized by the Centre for Entrepreneurial Development and Graduate Marketability (CEM) and the Sultan Abdul Samad Library. – CEM.
