Successful Implementation of CPR Technique Course Promotes Life-Saving Skills

SERDANG 4 JULAI 2023 - In a joint effort to enhance emergency response capabilities and promote life-saving skills, the Kompleks Mahasiswa’s Emergency Response Team (ERT) UPM organized a comprehensive Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Training Course on July 4, 2023. Led by Dr. Mohd Adnin Zakaria from the Occupational Health and Safety Unit of Hospital Kajang and Mrs. Nor Fazilah Abdullah, Honorary Secretary of the Malaysian Red Crescent UPM Branch, the course witnessed active participation from the ERT Group, comprising CEM, PKPP, and BAKD staff.

Associate Professor Dr. Mass Hareeza Ali, the director of UPM's ERT, expressed her appreciation for the collaboration and highlighted the significance of the CPR Training Course in equipping individuals with life-saving skills.

Dr. Mass Hareeza stated, "We are honoured to have Dr. Mohd Adnin Zakaria and Mrs. Nor Fazilah Abdullah on board for this CPR Training Course. Their expertise and experience in occupational health and emergency response have been invaluable in ensuring the success of this program."

The CPR Training Course aimed to empower the staff with the necessary knowledge and practical skills to respond effectively in emergency situations, particularly those requiring CPR. The course covered topics such as recognizing cardiac arrest, performing chest compressions, delivering rescue breaths, and utilizing automated external defibrillators (AEDs).

Dr. Mohd Adnin, an occupational health expert, emphasized the importance of CPR training for the UPM community. He said, "Being able to perform CPR promptly can significantly increase the chances of survival for individuals experiencing cardiac emergencies. By equipping the staff with these vital skills, we are fostering a culture of preparedness and resilience within the university."

Mrs. Nor Fazilah, Honorary Secretary of the Malaysian Red Crescent UPM Branch, highlighted the collaborative effort between the organization and Kompleks Mahasiswa's ERT Group. "We are delighted to support the team in organizing this CPR Training Course. The Malaysian Red Crescent has a long-standing commitment to promoting first aid skills and community resilience. This collaboration will undoubtedly contribute to creating a safer and more proactive university community," she said.

Dr. Mass Hareeza commended the enthusiastic participation of the staff and stressed the importance of such training programs for emergency response teams. She stated, "Our ERT members play a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of the UPM community. The CPR Training Course equips them with the necessary skills to act swiftly and effectively during emergencies. We are proud of their dedication and commitment."

With the successful organization of the CPR Training Course, our staff, in collaboration with Dr. Mohd Adnin and Mrs. Nor Fazilah, has taken a significant step towards strengthening emergency response capabilities within the university community. Equipped with life-saving skills, the staff stands ready to serve and protect the well-being of their fellow students and staff.
