UPM STUDENT CREATION UNISCENT WINS THIRD PLACE NMEPC 2022

Melaka, 14 May 2023 – The first year students of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) have won 2 awards in the National Micro Enterprise Pitching Competition (NMEPC) 2022,which is third overall and first place in the Technology and Innovation category. Each award received a cash prize of RM3,000.00, plaque and certificate.

Mohamad Azeem Bin Mohamad Isa and Wilson Pang Khong You from the Bachelor of Accounting, School of Business and Economics UPM were thrilled when they were announced as the third best overall group in this competition involving 46 groups from IPTA, Polytechnic and Community College students.

Those guided by Assoc. Prof. Dr.  Mass Hareeza Ali Director of the  Centre for Entrepreneurship Development and Graduate Employability (CEM) as a  mentor brings aromatic wax products made from recycled cooking oil and is innovated by highlighting the aromas of the local fruit, namely rambutan fruit as well as aromas from pandan and lemongrass. 

"This is my first competition after being a UPM student at the national level and many great products are contested by other IPTs. I am very grateful that Uniscent products managed to get third place for the entire product. In addition, here I learned a lot from the industry in expanding our products and business. Thank you to our mentor Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mass Hareeza and CEM who guided and provided our needs throughout the competition," Azeem said after the prize presentation ceremony.

UPM was also represented by another group , Rain Coffee for the food and beverage category which brought a new product, Bunga Telang Café Latte. This unique drink combines the rich taste of coffee with aroma and bright blue and provides health benefits to the devotioner.

This competition is one of the efforts of the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) to develop students who are holistic and balanced and tend to make entrepreneurship a career of choice. In addition, this platform can provide opportunities for IPT students to gain recognition of the products produced and receive an injection of funds to start or grow a business to be more competitive.

The final competition and prize presentation  was presented by YBrs. Puan Fazidah Mustafa  Under Secretary,  Strategic Planning Division of  MOHE which was accompanied by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor  (  Student Affairs and Alumni) of Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka y ang became a co-organiser  at Hotel Bayou Lagoon Park Resort, Melaka.
