SERDANG, 24 November 2023 — In a triumphant moment at the 47th convocation of Universiti Putra Malaysia, Ho Jia Da, an outstanding graduate holding a Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering from the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology (FSKTM) at UPM, emerged as the proud recipient of the prestigious Shell Tiram Wawasan Entrepreneurship Award. The convocation ceremony unfolded at the distinguishedPusat Kebudayaan dan Keseniaan Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah, where Ho Jia Da was honored to receive the award from the Chancellor of UPM, Duli Yang Maha Mulia Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj.

The accolade came with a substantial reward, including a cash prize of RM5,000.00, an illustrious gold medal, and a certification generously sponsored by Shell Tiram Wawasan Sdn Bhd, a distinguished player in the realm of Shell fuel operations.

Expressing his gratitude, Ho Jia Da remarked that he is deeply thankful for the award as it signifies not only a personal achievement but also high recognition for all graduates. This accolade serves as a source of motivation to persist in the field of entrepreneurship and continue contributing to UPM and the community.

"Since entering university, I have ventured into various businesses, from selling coffee at the UPM bazaar to founding a technology start-up called Xlektrik, creating a website facilitating food orders from vendors around UPM, and introducing EduLab—a card game designed to teach English to elementary and intermediate school students. I have explored diverse avenues," Ho Jia Da revealed.

Over his four years of study, Ho Jia Da has not only excelled academically but has also accumulated a substantial sum, surpassing RM50,000 through his various entrepreneurial endeavors.

Offering advice to his fellow UPM students, he encourages them to immerse themselves in entrepreneurship, embrace risks, and explore new horizons. This mindset not only allows for income generation while studying but also creates job opportunities for Malaysians, addressing community issues. Active participation in university activities, particularly CEM programs, can serve as a launching pad for their entrepreneurial journey.
